Om Shanti Om (2007)
Om Shanti Om (Hindi: ओम शान्ति ओम) is a 2007 Bollywood musical film directed and choreographed by Farah Khan. It stars Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles as the protagonists while Shreyas Talpade, Arjun Rampal, and Kirron Kher feature in supporting roles. Arjun Rampal is the antagonist in the movie. More than forty two well-known Bollywood stars appear in the course of the film, including thirty of them (not including the stars of the film) in one song alone.
Overview and Cast:
Director: Farah Khan
Starring: Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Kirron Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Arjun Rampal, Yuvika Chaudhary
Release date(s): 9 November 2007
Plot summary:
Om Prakash Makhija is a Junior Artiste in Bollywood, who is infatuated with actress Shantipriya, and hopes to marry her someday. His hopes come to reality when he rescues her from a fire and they go on a date. Shortly thereafter he finds out that she is married to a film producer, Mukesh Mehra, and is expecting his child. He then watches in horror as Mukesh, after luring her in an abandoned studio, sets it afire. Om attempts to rescue her in vain, and he eventually is killed. 30 years later, Om is reborn as the only son of yesteryear Bollywood actor, Rajesh Kapoor, and is himself an actor. His memories start to return when he meets with his widowed mother, Bela, from his previous birth. He also meets with Mukesh and together they decide to make a movie 'Om Shanti Om'. Om then hires a look-alike of Shantipriya, and hopes to force a confession out of Mukesh - but things go awry and Om finds his life endangered once again
Controversy:
Om Shanti Om landed into a controversy with veteran actor Manoj Kumar, for showing him (actually his body double) in a bad taste. In the movie, Shreyas Talpade's character (Pappu) sneaks Manoj Kumar's movie passes to enter a movie premiere. When the real Manoj Kumar (film double) shows up for the premiere, the security guards ask him for identification, for which he produces his driving license with a photograph of him covering his face (a parody to his classic style of acting). Because the Security guards do not recognize him, they declare him a fraud and chase him out of the premises with their sticks. In a different scene Shah Rukh Khan (as Om Prakash Makhija) is shown giving a mock thank-you speech in a drunken state and later saying that he is Manoj Kumar. Offended by the sequence, Manoj Kumar planned to sue the makers of 'Om Shanti Om'. In response he said, "Indian audiences had made Manoj Kumar into an icon ... That icon has been wounded, made fun of..... moral action is more important than a legal action". He also said, "People who make such movies do not know the meaning of respect and decency. They are criminals." Manoj Kumar also added, "Are the Mumbai police so stupid that they can't recognise Manoj Kumar and lathicharge him in the '70s when he was a star?”. Manoj Kumar also alleged that Shahrukh Khan is communal
Later, in a press conference Shahrukh Khan and director Farah Khan apologised for the matter. Shahrukh accepted his mistake and apologised, saying "It was a mistake to overlook the fact that it might hurt anyone. I truly apologise to everyone who think I have made fun of him. Honestly speaking, I didn't mean to show anyone in a negative manner or run down anyone". Farah Khan even offered to cut the scene which Manoj Kumar felt was hurtful, but Kumar refused on grounds that, as Khan had stated, "I [Farah Khan] was like his daughter. He said, ‘Betiyaan maafi nahi maangti ' (Daughters don't ask for forgiveness). I told him that he could've called me and scolded me".
Later, Manoj Kumar said that though this incident was hurtful to him, he wishes to forgive, ignore, and move on, saying that he prefers to “see Ram in everyone and ignore the Ravana”.
Finally, in 2008, before the film’s television premiere on Sony TV, veteran actor Manoj Kumar filed for a stay on the television release, at civil court in Mumbai. On 8 August 2008, he won permanent injunction on the scenes in 'Om Shanti Om' that lampooned him, as the court ordered the producers and Sony Entertainment Television, to edit the Manoj Kumar lookalike scenes, before showing the film on the channel on 10 August 2008. It also ordered that the film could not be shown in any media—TV, DVD or Internet—without the scene being deleted.
On 12 August 2008, Manoj Kumar, filed two cased cases against actor Shah Rukh Khan, his production house director, and wife, Gauri Khan, and film director Farah Khan for ridiculing him in Om Shanti Om. First was the defamation case, demanding Re 1 as damages, and the second was a cheating case, for not keeping their promise of deleting the scene, as assured at the time of film’s release.

Amar Akbar Anthony (1977)
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi
Amar Akbar Anthony was one of the most complete albums of the 70s. In fact, it ranks as one of the best Laxmikant-Pyarelal album. The biggest asset of Amar Akbar Anthony album is that it’s an album for the masses. From the massy Amar Akbar Anthony, to the full of life qawaali Pardah Hai Pardah, to the wonderful devotion Shirdi Wale Sai Baba, to the situational Tayyab Ali Pyar Ka Dushman, to the energetic rip-roaring My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves, and the wonderful love duet Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai, Amar Akbar Anthony was a great album whichever way you look at it. No wonder why it won Best Music at the Filmfare Awards and it was amongst the top ten best selling albums in the 70s.

Barsaat (1949)
Music: Shankar-Jaikishan
Lyrics: Hasrat Jaipuri, Shailendra, Ramesh Shastri & Jalal Mahilabadi
To be honest, this comes to no surprise that the best soundtrack in Bollywood history is the 1949 classic Barsaat. When Barsaat album was released in 1949, it became the highest selling album at that time, plus it was the biggest seller of the 40s decade. Another reason why this album is memorable is that it was Barsaat that gave Hindi cinema greatest singer ever Lata Mangeshkar the launching pad. This is Shankar-Jaikishan first album and upto this day, everyone can still associate with Barsaat. Every song from Barsaat is a classic in its own right. Barsaat utilizes Lata Mangeshkar vocals very well as most of the songs are solo rendition for her. From the memorable Hawa Mein Udta Jaye, to the melodious Jiya Beqarar Hai, to the poignant Barsaat Mein Hum Se Mile, to the irresistible Mujhse Kisise Pyaar Ho Gaya, to the emotional Bichide Huye Pardesi, to the touching Ab Mera Kaun Sahara, and the beautiful Meri Aankhon Mein Bas Gaye. All of Lata Mangeshkar solo track is a perfect ten in my books. The other gems in Barsaat were Mohammed Rafi solo track Mein Zindagi Main Hardam, and the other two tracks were duets that had Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar providing the vocals, and they were Patli Kumar Hai and Chhod Gaye Balam. Barsaat album changed the face of Bollywood as it launched the greatest singer to ever grace Bollywood, Lata Mangeshkar. It launched one of the famous musicians, Shankar-Jaikishan. Plus, Barsaat gave us some precious songs that will be remembered in the years to come. No wonder Barsaat is the greatest album of all-timegood
